Cubs

Cubs is for young people aged 8 – 10½

Launching young explorers into a world of possibilities

Cubs—young people aged 8 to 10½—build new skills, bond through adventure, and stretch their imaginations. They:

  • Try new things and master fresh skills
  • Embark on exciting adventures
  • Make friends and explore their curiosity
  • Discover how to help others—locally and beyond

Meetings take place weekly in Cub Packs, where members dive into fun and challenging activities designed to build confidence and teamwork

What Do Cubs Get Up To?

Adventure around every corner

Whether racing down a river, telling stories by torchlight, falling asleep beneath the stars, or even making an edible raft out of sweets—adventures aren’t just big—they’re wherever you are. Cubs make magic out of the everyday.

Learn by doing—and grow as people

From cooking a meal to giving first aid, Cubs develop practical life skills. But the heart of their learning lies in building character—like integrity (acting honestly) and initiative (taking charge without being asked).

Teamwork with purpose

Cubs tackle teamwork with heart. They’ll learn about global issues and contribute locally—whether campaigning for community causes, collecting for foodbanks, or planting trees in their park

What Does a Cub Pack Look Like?

Each Pack is led by an adult Cub leader, affectionately known as Akela, inspired by The Jungle Book. They’re supported by additional adult volunteers and sometimes by Explorer Scouts assisting through the Young Leader programme.

Within each Pack, Cubs are organized into a Six—a small team led by a Sixer and a Seconder. These young leaders help welcome new members, support during camps or activities, and occasionally lead games themselves.

Promise & Investiture Ceremony

Becoming a Cub means embracing a journey of character and community. New members explore what their Promise means and, once they’ve settled in, are invested: they say their Promise aloud—often with family and friends there to cheer them on.

Cubs promise to treat fellow members with kindness, do their best, and make a positive impact—guided by their beliefs and values.

Uniform

The Cub Uniform consists of:

  • Cub Shirt / Blouse
  • Scarf

Cub Scouts are expected to look after their uniform by keeping them clean, ironed and badges sewn on in the correct locations and aligned.
